ABILENE, Texas - McMurry's baseball continued to ride its offensive wave in a doubleheader sweep of Hardin-Simmons, 13-5 and 14-8, in American Southwest Conference action at Hunter Field. McMurry jumped out to big leads in both games - leading 8-1 in game one after one and a half innings and 8-0 after the same time in game two. HSU scored four runs in the second inning, but could not get anything going after it was 8-5.Taylor Gibbs had a three-run home run for the Cowboys. The Cowboys battled back from the deficit in game two and cut it to 9-8, but McMurry pulled away down the stretch with a run in the seventh and three in the ninth. Blake Koch and Taylor Gibbs each had two hits for the Cowboys. Bo Vaculik drove in two runs and scored two runs. Josh Alcorn took the loss for the Cowboys on the mound in just his second start of the season. HSU is now 11-10 on the year and 1-4 in ASC West action. McMurry improved to 15-7 overall and 6-0 in league play. The Cowboys play at Southwestern on Wednesday. |
