Cowboys Fall To McMurry, 14-0

ABILENE, Texas - Clint Johnstonn threw a 74-pitch, complete-game shutout and McMurry pounded out 17 hits in a 14-0 blanking of Hardin-Simmons in American Southwest Conference action at Hunter Field on Friday night.

Johnston scattered seven hits and the Cowboys were shut out for the first time this season. Nathan Copeland held McMurry in check for seven innings, allowing just three solo home runs in the first seven innings.

McMurry then exploded in the eighth inning scoring seven runs and added four more in the ninth. Joseph Cervantez, Weston Franco, Derek David and Brent Voorhees - the first four hitters in the McMurry lineup had home runs and all four had at least two RBIs with Franco and David collecting four RBIs.

HSU's offense that was averaging 9.7 runs per game managed just seven hits and hit into three double plays. Blake Koch led the Cowboys with two hits.

The Cowboys fell to 11-8 on the year and 1-2 in ASC play. McMurry improved to 13-7 overall and 4-0 in ASC play. The two teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
