Cowboys Rally By Southwestern

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team overcame and early deficit to down Southwestern, 8-5, Tuesday evening at Hunter Field in Abilene.

HSU got on the board in the second on a Danny Ruth RBI single. The Cowboys added another run in the third when Michael Simpson scored on a wild pitch.

Southwestern scored a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 5-2 and HSU responded with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. In the fifth, freshman Kelton Redpath had an RBI single and Ryan Stepp had an RBI double.

In the sixth, Black Koch walked, moved up on a sac bunt and scored on a wild pitch and Stepp had an RBI triple. HSU scored single runs in the seventh and eighth.

Sidjohn Regala (1-0) earned the win for the Cowboys and Kurtis Lay pitched the ninth for his third save of the season. Simpson and Ruth led the Cowboys with three hits each.

HSU is now 9-7 on the year. Southwestern fell to 8-10. HSU will play Marietta at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter Field.
