Cowboys Fall to Howard Payne

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons baseball team lost 12-4 to Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference action Friday afternoon at Hunter Field.

Howard Payne came out strong with a home run to left field from Oscar Luna in the first pitch of the day from Kyle Tabor. But in the bottom of the first inning the Cowboys answered back with Ryan Devere's double down the right field line which brought Brandon Been home.

The Yellow Jackets then scored 10 runs in the fourth through sixth innings. HPU was ahead 11-1. The Cowboys tried to tie the game up but came up short. HSU scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a hit from Seth Gandy, a fielder's choice from Brandon Beene and a sacrifice file from John Schlaffer.

The Cowboys were led by Elliot Strader who had three hits and one run. Craig Simpson led HPU with four hits, two runs and an RBI.

Kyle Tabor (2-2) picked up the loss for the Cowboys while Zach Edington picks up the win for the Yellow Jackets.

The Cowboys dropped to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in ASC action. HPU moves to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in ASC play.

HSU will face HPU in a doubleheader Saturday at Hunter Field.
