ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team won its third straight game with a 11-4 win over Wayland Baptist, Tuesday night at Hunter Field in Abilene. HSU jumped on top with three runs in the second. Michael Simpson and Ryan Stepp had singles to start the inning and Danny Ruth doubled in Simpson. Regan Dixon and Trevor Bunte then each had a RBI fielder's choice. After WBU scored a single unearned run in the top of the third on a passed ball, HSU responded with three more runs in the third. Brad Coleman had an RBI double and Danny Ruth had an RBI groundout. The Cowboys blew the game open in the seventh with four runs. Ruth had a two-run double and James Gage had a two-run single in the inning. Simpson had an RBI single in the eighth. Jeff Walker (1-0) was in control on the mound for the Cowboys. He scattered six hits in six innings and allowed two runs (one earned), while striking out four. Simpson had four hits for the Cowboys and Ruth drove in four runs. HSU is now 10-7 on the year and will play defending national champion Marietta at 3:30 on Wednesday. Wayland Baptist fell to 13-10 on the year. |
