ODESSA, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team swept its American Southwest Conference doubleheader with Sul Ross State on Saturday in Odessa, winning the first game 9-8 and taking the nightcap 21-5. The Cowboys jumped out to big leads in both games. HSU led the first game 8-0 and moved out to a 15-0 lead in the second game. In the first game, Michael Popino, Michael Simpson and Barry Janisse each had three hits and Simpson and Elliot Strader added three RBIs each. Kyle Tabor won the game in relief to move to 2-1 on the year. The Cowboys pounded out 15 hits for the second straight game. In the nightcap Brian Arnold threw a strong six innings and the Cowboys bats stayed hot with 16 more hits. Ryan Stepp, Simpson and Justin Wilson had three hits each. Wilson drove in five more runs to give him 29 on the year. Simpson, Stepp and Lamar had three RBIs each. Matt Hinds earned the save with three innings of relief work. HSU has won six straight games and are now 11-5 on the year and 3-0 in ASC West play. Sul Ross State fell to 2-11 and 0-3. HSU plays a doubleheader at UT-Dallas in Richardson on Tuesday. |
