Cowboys Win First Game Against UT-Dallas in Doubleheader

ABILENE, Texas - Kyle Tabor's two-hit shutout propelled the Hardin-Simmons baseball team to a 1-0 win over UT Dallas Saturday afternoon in the first game of an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at Hunter Field.

Tabor (1-1) struck out 10 and allowed just two hits, both doubles by David Widaski. Widaski doubled to lead off the fifth to break up Tabor's no hitter. Tabor responded by striking out the side.

The Cowboys scored their lone run in the third inning when Seth Gandy reached on an error by Michael Biguenet. Brian Whitworth bunted Gandy to second and Gandy scored when Chuy Rodriquez's hard hit grounder went through Biguenet's legs.

Rodriguez's first inning double was the Cowboys only hit of he game.

HSU improves to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in ASC play. UTD drops to 7-3 overall and to 2-3 in conference play.

The Cowboys will return to action on Monday in the Hardin Simmons Spring Break Tournament. HSU will take on Wayland Baptist Monday at noon and then Southwestern at 2:30 p.m. Wayland won a previous contest 11-10 in a 13 inning game.
