ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team lost a 16-10 slugfest to Texas-Dallas on Tuesday afternoon at a wind blown Hunter Field on Tuesday afternoon. After a scoreless first, UT-Dallas scored two runs in the second on a long two-run home run by Matt Putman. The Cowboys responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Trevor Bunte had an RBI groundout and Black Koch added a two-run single. UT-Dallas added three runs in the third and the Cowboys came back with two of its own to tie the game at 5-5. Bo Vaculik and Michael Simpson had RBI singles for the Cowboys. UT-Dallas then added five runs the next two innings to open up the game. The Cowboys added solo home runs in the fifth by Simpson and Vaculik in the seventh to make the game 10-7. UT-Dallas put the game away with a six-run ninth. The Cowboys scored three in the ninth. The game combined to see 10 pitchers. Sam Harrison earned the win and Josh Alcorn took the loss for the Cowboys. Simpson, broke out of a season-long slump, with four hits, a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Vaculik also had three hits for HSU. Putman and Nick Hand each had two hits and three runs scored. HSU opens ASC West play on Friday at Texas Lutheran. |
