ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons turned a two-out throwing error by Garrett Padgett in the sixth inning into two runs and Justin Wilson was dominant on the mound as the Cowboys took a 2-1 win over Austin College in American Southwest Conference crossover action at Hunter Field on Saturday. The Cowboys had trouble mustering up offense most of the day but finally scratched in the sixth. Barry Janisse led of with a bloop single to right. Andy Harrington popped up to first base before Michael Popino smashed a single to third base. Michael Simpson then moved Janisse to third with a fielder's choice that forced out Popino.. Craig Johnson then tapped to second and Padgett fielded it clean but the throw was low and up the line and Janisse raced home. Simpson moved to third on the play and scored on a Brad Coleman single through the left side. Justin Wilson (1-1) was dominant on the mound for the Cowboys. He struck out 11 , while scattering four hits and just one run. Clint Rushing was equally good for the Kangaroos as he allowed only the two unearned runs, while giving up just five hits. HSU improved to 5-3 with the win and Austin College fell to 0-11. |
