Cowboys Drop Two at Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of the Ozarks, 8-4 and 12-10, Saturday afternoon at Hurie Field in Clarksville, Ark.

In the first game, Michael Popino had a home run and three RBIs. Craig Foreman took the loss for the Cowboys going three and one-third innings, giving up five runs (three earned).

In game two, the Cowboys scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game, but an error and home run in the bottom of the ninth by Ozarks ended the game. Geoff Wheeler went 4-for-5 in his second start of the season at catcher. He had a home run and three RBIs. Justin Wilson added a pair of home runs for the Cowboys and Barry Janisse had a home run.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick first-inning lead with three runs. HSU starter Brian Arnold lasted only two-thirds of an inning. C.J. Rigala came in and pitched four and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Kyle Tabor (2-1) took the loss in relief.

Hardin-Simmons is now 5-5 on the year and will host its annual spring break tournament this week, before starting ASSC West play on Friday against Sul Ross State in Odessa.
