Cowboys Rally For Fifth Win

LONGVIEW, Texas - Hardin-Simmons rallied again in the last inning for a 3-2 win over LeTourneau, Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference crossover action in Longview.

The Cowboys scored two runs in the top of the ninth and turned it over to relief ace Kurtis Lay, who shut the door in the ninth to preserve the win. Lance Johnson recorded two outs in the win in relief of starter Brian Arnold. Johnson earned the win, despite seven and one-third strong innings from Arnold.

Lay, serving as the designated hitter, led off the ninth by reaching on an error. Brian Fields reached when his bunt attempt was thrown away. Tre' Sellari walked to load the bases with one out. Danny Ruth then ground into what appeared to be a double play, but LeTourneau throw the ball away and the Cowboys scored two unearned runs on the play.

HSU is now 5-4 on the year and all five games have involved a rally in the last inning of the game. LeTourneau fell to 2-6-1. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
