Feb. 22, 2005
ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons scratched out two runs in the sixth inning and four Cowboy pitchers did not allow an earned run as the Cowboys topped previously undefeated Trinity, 2-1, in action at Hunter Field on Tuesday afternoon. HSU picked up a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Brad Coleman led off with a walk and Scott Drake was hit by a pitch. Taylor Lamar bunted and it was misplayed by Nick Vera to load the bases with no one out. After a strikeout, Justin Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Coleman. Michael Popino then singled to right to score Drake and chase Trinity starter David Lodholz. Trinity (6-1) added a run in the seventh when Chase Tettleton and Blake Holman led off with back-to-back singles to start the inning. Kyle Tabor then struck out two straight batters, but on the second one with Trinity trying to double steal Scott Drake threw wild to second and allowed Tettleton to score. HSU (3-1) used a pitching staff by committee in the game. Craig Foreman, Nick Kincaid and Patrick Brandt each worked two scoreless innings. Kyle Tabor pitched the final three innings, allowing one unearned run, to pick up the save. Brandt earned the win. The Cowboys will host East Texas Baptist in a three-game set this weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. game on Friday night. |
