Schlaffer Leads Cowboys Past Austin College

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team picked up its first win of the season of Austin College, 15-8, Tuesday night at Hunter Field.

Senior second baseman John Schlaffer led the Cowboys at the plate with a 2-for-3 night with two home runs, including a grand slam in the fifth and a two-run shot in the first. Junior centerfielder Brandon Beene had three runs and was on base four times with a hit and three walks from his leadoff slot.

Andy Harrington hit a towering home run to right center in the first inning, his first as a Cowboy, to give HSU a 5-4 lead after the first inning. He was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Ryan Devere went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Sophomore Tyler Mayo picked up his first win off the season with 5 and 2/3 innings of four-hit ball in relief of starter Chuy Rodriguez. He allowed four hits and three runs, with just one run being earned.

The Cowboys will return to action Saturday against No. 12 University of Dallas in Irving in a noon twinbill.
