Feb. 17, 2007 ODESSA, Texas - Hardin-Simmons swept a baseball doubleheader from UT-Permian Basin, 12-4 and 8-7, Saturday afternoon at UTPB Field in Odessa. In the first game Dalton Rucker won his first game of the year on the mound and he received the support of five home runs. Taylor Lamar hit the first of his two-home runs in the game to lead off the third inning. Taylor Gibbs followed that with a single and Michael Simpson had a two-run home run. Ryan Stepp singled in Kyle Swearingen to give the Cowboys a 6-1 lead after three. In the fourth Lamar singled, Brad Coleman then hit a two-run home run, Simpson singled and Stepp had a two-run home run. In the nightcap the Cowboys had to hold off the Falcons as Lance Johnson earned the win out of the bullpen and Josh Alcorn induced a double play to record his second save of the season. The Cowboys scored three runs in the first when Lamar and Gibbs led off with walks and Michael Simpson had a three-run home run. HSU won the game with four runs in the fourth. Stepp homered to lead off the inning and Regan Dixon followed with a walk and moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Trevor Bunte. Taylor Lamar then walked and Taylor Gibbs hit a ball to deep center and the centerfielder hit the wall and was injured and Gibbs came around to score the inside-the-park home run. The Cowboys are now 3-2 on the year and will play Louisiana College next weekend at Hunter Field. |
