Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Foreman No-Hits LCU in Season Opener
Feb. 16, 2004 ABILENE, Texas - Craig Foreman opened up the 2004 baseball season in grand fashion as he threw the first no-hitter for Hardin-Simmons since Troy Limbaugh's in 1976, as the Cowboys defeated Lubbock Christian, 1-0, Monday afternoon at Hunter Field in the season opener. The Cowboys used a two-out walk by junior catcher Scott Drake and a bloop single down the right field line by freshman Michael Simpson scored Drake in the bottom of the seventh inning. Foreman mowed through the Chapparals, allowing only two runners on base, a first-inning single and a second-inning walk. He retired the final 17 batters in order. "I felt good out there and the defense was picking up all of the ground balls," said Foreman. "A good defense behind you gives the pitcher a lot of confidence. (Scott) Drake called a great game behind the dish. We talked as a team about wanting to start the season strong." Barry Janisse and Andy Harrington had the only other hits for the Cowboys. Harrington had a hit-saving play in the second went he climbed the ladder at first to take a hit away from Matt Waters. Justin Garcia took the hard-luck loss for LCU. He threw the entire game and struck out 10 and allowed just the three hits. LCU fell to 6-5 on the year. |
