Feb. 16, 2004 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons gave up eight runs in the top of the seventh inning against Lubbock Christian and dropped the second game of a doubleheader, 10-2, Monday afternoon at Hunter Field. Lubbock Christian got on the board in the second inning when with two outs Chad Christy was hit by a pitch and Matt Waters drew a walk. Matt Daugherty then got the Chaps first hit of the day as he hit a double off the wall to score both runners. After Josh Bishop worked out of a two-on no-out situation in the top of the third, the Cowboys knotted the game at two in the bottom of the inning. Barry Janisse caught a line drive up the middle and stepped on second for a double play. Janisse then made a running catch behind third to record the third out of the inning. The Cowboys duplicated the Chaps effort as Brandon Beene walked with two outs, Janisse was hit by a pitch and Andy Harrington hit a line drive down the right field line to plate both runners. LCU got eight runs in the top half of the seventh inning. Daugherty had a one-out single and Fernando Cortez followed with a run-scoring double. Alex Sianez then walked. Victor Rodriguez then singled up the middle plating another run. Matt Hinds then replaced Justin Wilson on the mound. Rodriguez stole second and Aurio O'Neill grounded out to Hinds for the second out. Hinds then struck out Daniel Ochs, but the pitch bounced away up the line and Ochs scored, extending the inning. LCU added four more runs for an eight-run seventh. Wilson took the loss for the Cowboys and Chase Campbell got the win in relief for the Chaps. HSU will host the University of Dallas on Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. |
